Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater went to recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in April of 1996. Upon graduation he was sent to School Of Infantry West, Infantry Training Battalion where he was trained as a 0311 Basic Rifleman.
He then reported to Bravo Co, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton, CA. While serving there, Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater was promoted from Private thru the ranks to Corporal and served as a Rifleman, Team Leader, and Squad Leader. He was also trained as an Assault Climber and Scout Swimmer prior to deploying with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater reenlisted at the rank of Corporal in 2000 and was sent to School of Infantry West to be a Marine Combat Instructor. In 2001, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. During his time as a Marine Combat Instructor, Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater served as a Squad Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Commander with India Company, Marine Combat Training Battalion and finished his tour there with the Instructor Group as a Platform Instructor.
In 2003, Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater was Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps at the rank of Sergeant and moved to Woodstock, Georgia. While there, he worked for Firearms Training Systems installing Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainers and providing training to their operators. During this time, Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater was also a drilling reservist with Bravo Company, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion.
December of 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater returned to active duty at the rank of Sergeant as a 6314 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Avionics Technician. He attended I level avionics course at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida followed by Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Maintainers course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and was assigned to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1 at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California. During his time there, Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, was promoted to Staff Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant, and served as Work Center 200 Supervisor, Quality Assurance Chief, and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant.
In April of 2014 Gunnery Sergeant Rainwater was assigned to Training and Education Command at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. He served as the Unmanned Aerial Systems Maintenance Training Analyst for Aviation Standards Branch until October of 2017. He was then reassigned to Force Fitness Division, Training and Education Command where he currently serves as a Physical Readiness Assessor.
