Captain Matthew D. Holfinger Research and Policy Analyst

Captain Holfinger was born on 06 August 1990 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was commissioned on 21 May 2012, having completed his undergraduate education in Hospitality Management at The University of Central Florida. He attended The Basic School in April of 2013 followed by the Infantry Officer Course in January 2014.

Captain Holfinger was assigned to Third Battalion, Second Marines aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as a Rifle Platoon Commander for Lima Company. He participated in the Battalion Deployed for Training (DFT) to Fort A.P. Hill in August 2014. Shortly following the DFT Captain Holfinger took part in Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) 01-15 in October 2014 aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center 29 Palms, California. Captain Holfinger was then deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 15.2 from February 2015 to August 2015. While supporting the Unit Deployment Program Captain Holfinger conducted training exercises in Camp Fuji, Japan, Jungle Warfare Training Center and Camp Mujuk, Korea in support of the Korea Marine Exchange Program.

Upon arrival back to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Captain Holfinger became the Weapons Platoon Commander for Lima Company. In August 2015 he attended the Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival Course aboard Camp Johnson. Additionally Captain Holfinger also attended Joint Fires Observer Course 10-16 in Fort Little Creek, Virginia in October 2015 and Fire Support Coordination Center Course in November 2015. Captain Holfinger participated in the Battalion DFT to Fort A.P. Hill Virginia in January 2016. In March 2016 Captain Holfinger took part in ITX (03-16) aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center 29 Palms, California, here he served as the Lima Company Fire Support Team Leader in addition to Weapons Platoon Commander. Captain Holfinger as Weapons Platoon Commander deployed in support of UDP 16.2 to Okinawa Japan. While in Okinawa Captain Holfinger conducted training at Jungle Warfare Training Center on Okinawa and supported Operation HOGUK and KMEP 17.1 in South Korea. Upon completion of the deployment Captain Holfinger received orders to Force Fitness Division in MCQ Quantico.

Captain Holfinger is currently serving as the Research and Policy Analyst for the Force Fitness Division of Training and Education Command (TECOM).
