Major Slyman graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor’s of Science in English in May 2008, she was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.
Upon completion of The Basic School in January 2009, Second Lieutenant Slyman attended the Air Support Control Officers’ Course, Twentynine Palms, California, where she received formal training as an Air Support Control Officer.
In June 2009, Second Lieutenant Slyman was assigned to Marine Aviation Support Squadron 1 (MASS-1), Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, where she served as the Tactical Air Director and Helicopter Director (TAD/HD) in Al Asad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this assignment she was responsible for the safety of flight for all aircraft in Area of Operations.
Upon return from deployment, Second Lieutenant Slyman served as the Personnel and Legal Officer for MASS-1.
In March 2011, First Lieutenant Slyman was attached to VMM-263 and performed duties as the Assistant Air Support Element Officer in Charge aboard the USS Bataan deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and the Horn of Africa with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) for Operation Odyssey Dawn.
In May 2012, First Lieutenant Slyman reported to MCB Quantico for Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS).
In June 2013, she reported to Marine and Family Programs Division, Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA) as Executive Coordinator to the Director. During this assignment Captain Slyman was responsible for the coordination of all executive scheduling, travel, and logistical matters for the Director and Division leadership.
In March of 2016, she was assigned to Marine Corps Augmentation Training and Support Unit (MCATSU) where she served as an Operations Officer. While assigned to MCATSU Major Slyman attended Operations Tradecraft Course in January of 2018 and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve from September 2018-March 2019. During this deployment Major Slyman was responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing operations in support of a Joint Task Force.
In September 2019, Major Slyman checked into Force Fitness Division, Training and Education Command. She currently fills the billet of Programs and Assessments Branch Head for the Programs, Operations, and Assessments Branch.
Major Slyman has a Masters of Arts in Leadership Studies from Marshall University and is a Masters of Business Administration candidate at the University Of Virginia Darden School Of Business. Her personal awards include a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal with “C” device.
