The ultimate goal of Marine Corps physical fitness is to optimize mental and physical performance and make all Marines more lethal, resilient, and more capable on the battlefield. This need is being met through the Commandant's Initiative of creating the Force Fitness Instructor (FFI) MOS. The creation of this MOS is going to give a new definition to what fitness is to the Marine Corps as a whole.

We are not producing power lifters, marathon runners, or bodybuilders; our goal is to implement a laser like focused plan designed with continuous progression so that every Marine can become a smarter and more physically fit warfighter. The FFI course is designed so that it is easy to follow, goal-oriented and will help Marines stay on track because consistency will be the key to our success.

Injury prevention will be equally as important as physical performance. This is in response to the fact that we have lost far too many Marines to injuries that could have been prevented by educating them. When Marines hide injuries or have a "tough it out" mindset it lowers the ability to achieve peak performance, thereby decreasing the unit’s combat effectiveness. We must be as focused on injury prevention as we are on conditioning our bodies.

The workouts have been designed to mirror a professional athlete's strength and conditioning program, infusing performance nutrition and injury prevention as the pillars of our methodology. It is our goal that Marines who operate in every occupational specialty will possess a baseline knowledge of human performance and how it applies to successfully completing our mission.

In order to obtain the additional MOS of Force Fitness Instructor you must meet the prerequisite. The Marine must be a Sergeant or above and be in a full duty status. The Marine must also score a 250 or better on both the PFT and CFT and be within Height and Weight Standards in accordance with the new order. Additionally, the Marine must be PME complete and have at least one year time in service left on their contract.
