Training Programs

Each of these training programs serve to successfully prepare and familiarize Marines with the aquatic environment they will encounter at water survival qualification. The programs are structured in a progressive manner and can prepare Marines for their upcoming water survival qualification. In order to select the correct program, first the Marine must conduct a personal and honest assessment of their own aquatic strength and attitude towards an aquatic environment.

The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) has teamed up with the Single Marine Program (SMP) to rally car lovers for the Autocross racing event at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, June 12-13, 2021. The SCCA and SMP hold the event up to five weekends a year in order to allow service members and automobile enthusiasts to drive their vehicles to the limit in a safe environment. Kyle Wetter, an infantry unit leader with Marine Crops Installations West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, rescues a baby from a burning vehicle on Mission Road in Fallbrook, California, Dec. 7, 2020. Wetter was going East-bound when he came across a burning vehicle, as Wetter approached the vehicle, he saw the father and mother attempting to get their baby out of the back of the car, the baby was in a car seat and trapped by the seat belt, that is when Wetter climbed in the back of the car and pulled a knife out and cut the seatbelt, safely rescuing the baby.
